In today's Gospel reading from Luke 12, someone in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me." He replied, "Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?" Then he said to the crowd, "Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions." The man asking the question had no idea who Jesus truly was. Jesus is the Lord who saves us from sin and grants eternal life; he did not come to fulfill our greed or other selfish desires. He is absolutely right; life does not consist of possessions.
