Today is the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. Let me quote from today's Psalm 139: "Truly you have formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I give thanks that I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are your works." Then, in the second reading from Acts 13, Paul says, "John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel; and as John was completing his course, he would say, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.'" The fact that we feel that we are not worthy to unfasten the sandals of Jesus' feet shows that we are indeed wonderfully made.
