Today's Gospel Acclamation based on Matthew 8:17, quoting Isaiah, reads: "Christ took away our infirmities and bore our diseases." In the Catholic Church, we have so-called victim souls. These are saintly individuals who voluntarily accept physical, emotional, or spiritual suffering for the reparation of the sins of the world or the salvation of other souls. We see that Jesus is the perfect victim soul on our behalf.
